Tactical Medicine/ Rapid Task Force

With the growing concern of Active Assailant Incidents, it is our responsibility to be prepared both personally and also professionally. Our goal is to provide a resource to civilians, Law Enforcement, Fire Departments, schools, public organizations, churches, and private businesses. Services range from a 2 hour Stop the Bleed class to the development of a full Rapid Task Force program for your organization.

Our Services

  • Course Length: 2 Hours

    Audience: Civilians

    Course Info: In this course, the focus will be the basic skills of controlling bleeding and preventing against shock. Students will learn how to utilize Stop the Bleed kits which include gauze and bandages. Students will also learn how to apply tourniquets.

  • Course Length: 4 Hours

    Audience: Civilians, Intro for Law Enforcement and Fire Departments

    Course Info: This course is a more in depth class of Stop the Bleed and will discuss the physiology and signs of symptoms of shock, hemorrhage control, bandaging, and tourniquets. This class will also begin to discuss EMS role in final treatment of the victims.

  • Course Length: 8-16 Hours

    Audience: Law Enforcement and Fire Departments

    Course Info: In the Technical class, the focus now shifts to evacuations and final treatment and transport. This class will discuss Physiology and signs and symptoms of shock, hemorrhage control, tourniquets, chest seals, implementation of EMS, evacuation, and casualty collection point.

    For more advanced classes, this class can be expanded to discuss communication, Incident command, and practical scenario based-training sessions.

  • Rapid Task Force (RTF) is being developed throughout the country to create synergy between Law Enforcement and Fire Departments/ EMS Departments, to ensure a proper response from initial engagement and treatment to transportation to higher level of care. This class not only prepares for active shooter but other types of active threats. This class is focused towards fire department development to augment the initial engagement, provide initial treatment, evacuation, and complete treatment and transportation, but Law Enforcement but can also be implemented within the Law Enforcement agency. This includes development of SOGs, recommendations of ballistic vests and equipment, medical equipment and career and final care. This will be an all encompassing class for FDs. It is still highly encouraged to have a Law Enforcement representative present if the class is focused towards Fire Departments.

    Law Enforcement RTF includes active engagement and search for assailant, treatment and engagement of treatment by the initial officers, evacuation and the implementation of EMS into the engagement force.

LEAD INSTRUCTOR

AUSTIN SAPIENZA

Austin has served as firefighter Paramedic at Johnston-Grimes Metro Fire District for 10+ years, is a Critical Care Paramedic, and Combat Medic (FP-C). Austin serves as the lead of the Rapid Task Force for Johnston-Grimes Metro FD. Austin was deployed to Afghanistan in 2017-2018 supporting the 10th Group and 1st Group Special Forces during Operation Freedom Sentinel as a flight medic with C-Co “Valkyrie” DUSTOFF. He has taught at the Regimental Trainings Institute as a Combat Medic Instructor. He currently serves as an All-Source Intel Analyst with 132nd OG with the Air Force.

 

Austin has taught these courses at fire departments, law enforcement agencies, churches and schools throughout the Des Moines Metro, the National Guard and at the Air Force in Iowa. Austin is proud father and a Blue Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Assistant Instructor for Kids BJJ. He was awarded the Governor’s X Award in 2022. Austin is also a talented musician and in a Doom metal band.

 

The courses offering cover initial treatment such as Stop the Bleed, to full implementation with local Law Enforcement and Fire Departments during the initial phases of an active scene. Courses can be tailored to your organization’s needs.
